Head Coach
Andy Maddix
|
Coach Maddix is a graduate of
Yorktown High School, New York where he was an All-Westchester County
first team selection as a pitcher and an infielder in 1989. At Division
III Oswego State (New York) he was a 2-year team captain and a 1993 All-SUNYAC
infielder. In 1994 he began his coaching career as a graduate assistant
at his alma mater, followed by a stint in 1996 as a 9th grade
assistant coach at North Allegheny. After a year teaching at the
Kildonan School in New York, he returned to NA as an Assistant Varsity
Coach, a position he held until the 2005. As an assistant, Coach Maddix
was a part of the 2000 State Championship and the 2003 and 2005 WPIAL
Championship teams. In 2006, he began his head coaching career at
Vincentian Academy where his Royals were Section Champions and set a
school record for regular season wins at 13-6. 2007 saw another winning
season and a trip to the playoffs. For the past three summers Coach
Maddix has also been an Assistant Coach for the Allegheny Athletics, a
collegiate summer league team. This is his first year as the Head
Varsity Coach at North Allegheny. He has been a Social Studies teacher
at the Senior High since 1997. He resides in Scott Township with his
wife Karen and their two sons Sean (3) and Tyler (1).

Outfield/First Base Coach
Gary Metro
|
Coach Metro and his wife Marian reside in McCandless. Gary is employed by
North Allegheny as an elementary school teacher and works at Hosack Elementary.
For the past 15 years he has been a coach in the North Allegheny program ,
including the last seven as a Varsity Assistant. He's also
had experience coaching the 9th. Grade and Junior Varsity levels within the
North Allegheny Baseball Program. He is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson
High School and St. Bonaventure University.

Pitching/Catching Coach
Harry Yeakel
|
Coach Yeakel and his wife Shannon reside in Wexford. He
is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he received
his undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. He has also gone on
to receive his master’s degree in Reading from Slippery Rock University.
Harry has played catcher at both high school and college levels. He is
currently an Instructional Support Teacher at Franklin, Hosack and
Peebles Elementary schools. Over the past 6 years he has been an
assistant coach at the Varsity level. During those six years he has
served as a catching and pitching coach. He also in the past two years
has coached the Allegheny Athletics a collegiate summer team. Prior to
coaching at NA Coach Yeakel has had coaching experience with the Junior
and Senior American Legion Team in Norristown, Pennsylvania where he
went to High School.

Infield/Catching Coach
Buddy McKay
|
Buddy McKay comes to us for his thrid year of coaching. For the past
two years, Buddy was the head coach of the Carson Middle School team. Prior to Carson, his coaching experience includes Ass’t Tennis
Coach at the University of Mississippi, Ass’t Middle School Football Coach at
Oxford Middle School in Mississippi, Head Coach at Franklin Regional Junior High
School and several
years as American and Junior American Legion Coach in Murrysville, PA.
During the off season, Coach McKay is the Clubhouse Manager for the
Washington Wild things of the Frontier League. He has done this
for the past two years. Coach McKay played high school ball … catcher … and then went on to graduate
from the University of Mississippi as a Political Science/Spanish double major.
I asked Coach McKay a few questions to help us get to know him a little
better ... here’s what he had to say …
What is your current occupation in addition to coaching? Supervising
Baierl Center, Painting Contractor, Lifetime Student
Married? Pets?
No. Three dogs: Rocky, a german shepherd, Stahla, a
pitbull and Penny, a beagle.
Favorite Music on your ipod?
Any music that I can understand the words
to, but not on the ipod. I’m old school, I still listen to cd’s.
Where can you be found on your day off?
In the park, walking my dog or
fishing.
What’s the one thing the players will most often hear you say?
Push
it.
Favorite food? Filet Mignon Favorite vacation spot?
Any
European city.

Hitting Coach
Bill Stoops
|
Coach Stoops comes to North Allegheny as the primary hitting instructor
after 8 successful years as the Head Coach of the Deer Lakes Lancers. He
has also been both a JV and varsity coach at Franklin Regional and
Valley High Schools. He also spent 4 years as the Co-Head Coach at CCAC
Boyce College as well as 3 years as an assistant coach at Penn State –
New Kensington. In the summers Coach Stoops has been an assistant coach
for the Murrysville Legion team, the Murrysville Maulers and the
Allegheny Athletics. His playing experience includes time with Blue
Field Blairsville Colts, Murrysville Semi-Pro, and Murrysville Legion
teams. He resides in Plum with his wife of 26 years, Mary Ann, and their
dog Rex.

First base/Conditioning/Scouting Coach
Nate Tengowski
|
Coach Tengowski is a 2002 graduate of Westminster
College. Currently he and his wife reside in Cranberry. He
teaches American History at North Allegheny Senior High school and has
done so for the past five years.
This is Coach Tengowski's 3rd. year coaching baseball
after having coached at Vincentian Academy with Coach Maddix for the
past 2 years.
Prior to joining Coach Maddix at Vincentian, he was
also the head coach of a team in the Daily News League in McKeesport for
3 years.
For the past 2 years, Coach Tengowski has been the
head football coach for the 9th. grade team at NAI. Previous to
that, he coached college football at Westminster College where he
specialized as a QB coach for 1 year and OL coach for 1 year.

Pitching Coach
Derek Blyzwick
|
This is Derek's first year coaching at North Allegheny.
He just finished up his student teaching experience in the fall here at
NA, receiving a degree in Health and Physical Education from Slippery
Rock University this past December. He played baseball and football at
near-by Moon High School where he was the starting quarterback for 2
years and All-District selection in 2002. A starting pitcher at Moon for
3 years, Coach Blyzwick won back to back state championships (2001 and
2002)and was the winning pitcher in the State Championship game his
senior year (2002). After accepting a scholarship to play baseball at
the University of Pittsburgh, he left half way through the school year
and transferred to Slippery Rock University. At Slippery Rock, he
lettered all four years as a starting pitcher and was named PSAC
first-team all conference in both his junior and senior years. In his
senior year he was also named captain by team mates and coaches. Derek
currently resides in Moon.

Matt Butler
Outfield/First Base Coach
|
Coach Matt Butler is what we would call a "home town
guy"! He attended high school here and played football. In
2000-2002 school year's, he was the captain and starting
quarterback for the Tigers. In the same years, he was named All
Conference and made the Post Gazette Fabulous 22 in 2002.
Coach Butler also began his baseball career while at
North Allegheny. He was the starting centerfielder from 2001-2003
and All Conference for three years. He was named to the All-PG
North team as a Senior. In 2000, as a Freshman, Coach Butler was a
member of the State Championship Team. He also was a member of the
2003 WPIAL Championship Team as a Senior. In addition to baseball,
Coach Butler also played Tiger Basketball from 2000-2002.
Upon graduating from North Allegheny, Coach Butler
attended Kent State University for one year on a Baseball scholarship.
Following that year, he transferred and graduated from Gannon University
in December 2007, with a degree in Elementary and Special Education.
While at Gannon, he accepted a Football scholarship and lettered in that
sport for three consecutive years. Two of the years he captained
and started for the team as a quarterback. At Gannon, he presently
holds various school records in Football.
Recently, Coach Butler completed his student teaching
at North Allegheny (fall 2007). He was the Head Coach of the 7th.
grade Carson Middle School Boys Basketball Team and the Assistant Coach
of the Carson Middle School Football Team (fall 2007).
Today, Coach Butler resides in Franklin Park. |
